Guided tour for schools

The Danish monarchy through good times and bad

This guided tour is exclusively for schools and takes students on an educational journey through the Glücksborg dynasty, dramatic historical events and the development of the Danish monarchy from absolutism to democracy.

Highlights of this guided tour

Hear about the history of the Danish monarchy and the royal figures who, for the past 150 years, have shaped the monarchy as we know it today.

See the desks and studies of the Danish kings. At first glance, these rooms appear as peaceful retreats, but upon closer inspection, you can see the signs of turbulent times, political turmoil, world wars and industrialisation and the kings' efforts to adapt to changing conditions.

Based on the interiors and furnishings of the rooms, the tour takes a close look at the history of the Danish monarchy and the changing role of the royal family in society from the mid-19th century to the present day.

A time of major historical changes that shaped the kings' life and work at Amalienborg.
