Address, Metro and parking

How to get here

The Amalienborg Museum is located in Christian VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg. Entrance is through the gate nearest Frederiksgade.

The nearest Metro station is Marmorkirken (the Marble Church).

Unfortunately, we do not have parking facilities at the Amalienborg Museum.

Bags, luggage on wheels etc.

Practical information

For security reasons, we only allow very small handbags inside the palace. Bags must be worn in front.

Larger bags and rucksacks must be stored in the cloakroom lockers. The lockers are free.

Unfortunately, we do not have room to store suitcases or large luggage in our cloakroom.

Pushchairs/buggies and prams are not allowed inside the museum but can be left in the cloakroom next to the museum shop.

For security reasons, carry cots and sleep carriers are not allowed inside the palace – we recommend using a carrying sling.

Eating or drinking is not allowed at the museum.

Visitors are only allowed to take photographs at the museum using handheld equipment. Tripods or monopods are not allowed inside the museum.

Smoking is not allowed at the museum. This includes e-cigarettes.

Companion card, disabled parking etc.

Accessibility

From the entrance, go down one level to the museum shop. Here, there is a platform lift to the cloakroom, which has a conventional lift to the upper levels. Thus, wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility have access to every part of the museum.

If you have special needs you are welcome to notify us of your visit ahead of time, so that the staff can be prepared to provide any necessary assistance to make your visit enjoyable.

Visitors with a companion card from Disabled People’s Organisation Denmark can bring a carer/companion free of charge. You will need to present the companion card when you arrive. You can book a free companion ticket online or request one from the ticket desk when you arrive.

Unfortunately, we do not have parking facilities at the Amalienborg Museum. Thus, we cannot offer disabled parking.

It is not possible to drive up to the entrance of the museum for kerbside drop off/pick up, as vehicles are not allowed on Amalienborg Palace Square. Instead, drop off/pick up can happen at Frederiksgade, about 50 m from the museum entrance.

The museum has a platform lift and a conventional lift. The platform lift goes directly to the shop and ticket desk, cloakroom, toilets (including toilet with disability access) and the conventional lift. Our staff at the entrance are ready to assist with the operation of the platform lift.

The conventional lift provides access to the museum galleries. The lift door is 80 cm wide, the interior of the cabin is 145 cm long.

Max load

Unfortunately, some electric wheelchairs may be too large for the conventional lift and the platform lift. The maximal load for both is 225 kg.

You are very welcome to contact us before your visit if you have any questions about accessibility and about our lifts.

At the Amalienborg Museum, we have a wheelchair that you can borrow for free. You need to book the wheelchair in advance.

The Garden Room at Amalienborg has seats where you can pause and rest. We also have lightweight portable stools that you can carry with you during your visit to take a rest anytime you like.

There is a toilet with disability access in the basement next to the lift. To get to this level, you will need to go down a few steps or use the platform lift. There is a staff member at the door who can help you operate the platform lift.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs accompanying their owner are allowed throughout the palace. To qualify, the dog must be a trained assistance dog with a vest or other accessory clearly marked ‘Assistance dog’ or similar. The dog must be kept on a leash throughout your visit.

If you have a hidden disability or condition, you can pick up a free Sunflower lanyard and a plastic sleeve for a personal card when you visit the Amalienborg Museum. Both are available from our museum shop and ticket desk.

The Sunflower lanyard is a discreet sign that the wearer might need a little extra time and understanding or a helping hand. As part of the Sunflower programme, our frontline staff have the awareness and training to provide the conditions for a safe and enjoyable visit.

AutismGoTo creates autism-friendly social presentations of various Danish visitor destinations to make it easier to plan and conduct a visit.

At Amalienborg, we have developed a social presentation of the palace in collaboration with AutismGoTo. You can find our AutismGoTo information site with helpful and practical information here.

The Amalienborg Museum is registered with Access Denmark.
