The Dining Hall

The table in the Dining Hall can seat 52 dinner guests but is mainly used as a serving table during gala dinners in the Great Hall.

Above the large table, two 19th-century crystal chandeliers from the Royal Palace in Oslo shed a beautiful light on the mahogany table and the hall.

Long table made of stair treads

While the flames were mercilessly devouring Christiansborg Palace in the afternoon of 3 October 1884, the treads and banisters of the King's Staircase were quickly carried to safety, because the stair was made of exquisite mahogany. Today, you can see the beautiful stair in the Dining Hall, where it has been transformed into a long dining table.

The treads were pieced into a grand table, with the banisters turned into elegant footrests.

The chandeliers are reflected in the table

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dining Hall was used for Council of State meetings, because the large table made it possible to observe the necessary physical distance between the attendants.
