Renaissance Dancing

What is this activity about?

Strictly come dancing? Try the Spanish Renaissance dance the Pavane in the beautiful historical setting of Koldinghus under the skilled guidance of our dancing master.

If you enjoy dancing, Koldinghus offers courses in ‘Pavane di Koldinghus’, a dance choreographed for the purpose by our dancing master, Børge Jensen. The old, elegant traditional dance is brought back to life in a historical setting that helps to perfect the experience and offer a fascinating insight into culture and traditions of the Renaissance

The Pavane – which means ‘peacock's tail’ – is one of the many dances dating to the Renaissance. An elegant, calm and majestic dance, the Pavane originated in Spain and spread during the Renaissance to all the royal courts of Europe. The Pavane is s slow and dignified procession dance that could be performed in large groups with an expression of postural control and cultivated manners – highly prized qualities that were put on display at royal parties in the Knights' hall.
