Highlights of this tour
This tour of the Flora Danica exhibition presents the history of the lavish dinnerware. From the connection to the prestige project of documenting the wild Danish flora, which provided the artwork for the decorations, to the intricate process of designing the many parts to the first time the Flora Danica set was used, at Christian VII's 54th birthday banquet, on 29 January 1803.
You will also hear about some of the myths of connections to international politics, the remarkable plant images and, not least, the choreography of a banquet at the danish royal court during the 18th century. The guide will walk you through the exhibition, pointing out anything from cracked plates to some very special parts with highly specific roles to play on the impressive banquet table in the gold-trimmed display case in the middle of the exhibition. Get a close look at events when the royal family, with Christian VII as the central figure, sat down to a birthday banquet in 1803, for the first time eating their dessert from the iconic Flora Danica set.
