Wars and fires left their mark on the castle, culminating in the catastrophic fire in 1808, when the building burnt down. What remained now was a ruin, which took on a whole new role during the 19th century, when ruins were considered a beautiful and picturesque element in the cultural landscape. However, the castle rose from the ashes and entered a period of new greatness as a large and unique museum.
This tour takes the guests into selected rooms where the story of the Koldinghus and the kings associated with the castle is told. The guests will also hear the masons’ story, told in the large courtyard with the rare and original paving.
