Private guided tour

Highlights of Rosenborg

Highlights of Rosenborg is a classic guided tour focused on the history of the castle. Travel through 200 years of Danish history from Christian IV, who had the castle built, to Frederik IV, the last royal resident at the castle.

Highlights of this tour

This tour focuses on the unique objects, rooms and stories that frame the castle's history.

For example, you can hear the dramatic story about how Christian IV lost sight in one eye. See his blood-stained clothes and the shrapnel removed from his wounds, which he kept as a memento of his own heroism. You can also see Christian IV's secret mouthpiece, which allowed him to speak to the other residents of the castle throughout the different floors.

The tour also visits Frederik III's beautiful marble room and tells the story of the introduction of absolutism. In the Great Hall, you will see Christian V's twelve woven tapestries, which reflect his burning desire to reclaim the title as the ruler of the Nordic region. Naturally, we also take a close look at the last royal resident of the castle, Frederik IV, who brought an exceptional collection of glass to Rosenborg – which has been preserved to this day.

The tour concludes in the Treasury, where you will see a unique collection of objects, including the Danish crown jewels, Christian IV's Renaissance crown and the crowns of the absolute monarchs.
