The queens at Rosenborg

Who were the queens associated with Rosenborg Castle during the 17th and 18th centuries? How did each of them fill their role as queen? And what is their historical legacy? Get the answers on this tour.

Highlights of this tour

This tour focuses on the Danish queens associated with Rosenborg Castle when it served as a royal residence, mainly during the 17th century. Who were the Danish queens? How did each of them fill out their role? And what is their legacy in Rosenborg? The tour will give you the answers to these and many other questions and give the Danish queens their rightful place in history.

For example, you will hear about Queen Sophie, who after the death of her husband, Frederik II, showed great initiative and proved herself a skilled administrator. On the tour, we also meet the colourful Queen Sophie Amalie, who liked to party, and who received a very special ring from her husband, Frederik III, to taunt her for her infidelity. You can also hear the story of Queen Anna Sophie, who played a key role in a royal family drama that led to Denmark getting a new crown and throne for the queen.
