Christian VI’s Room (room 12)

From bedroom to exhibition room with royal interiors from Frederiksberg Palace and objects from the life of Christian VI.

Princess Sophie Hedevig's Bedroom and Christian VI's Hall

Princess Sophie Hedevig's Bedroom

The room served for many years as the bedroom of Frederick IV's sister, Princess Sophie Hedevig (1677-1735).

Unfortunately, none of the original furnishings remain. The walls have subsequently been decorated with woven tapestries depicting various scenes from the life of Alexander the Great. The tapestries were originally sample pieces that the tapestry weaver Bernt van der Eichen, who was called from Flanders in 1684, brought with him as examples of his work before he received the commission for the tapestries about Christian V's war exploits, which hang in the Knight's Hall.

The ceiling painting, called "Flora, scattering blessings over Denmark," was painted by the master Bénoit le Coffre, and it, along with the parquet floor, was brought from Frederiksberg Palace. Both were moved to Rosenborg around 1870.

The exhibited objects in the room are related to the life of Christian VI and thus mainly date from the first half of the 18th century.
