Frederik IV’s Hall (room 10)

This room is a really good example of how much Rosenborg Castle has changed over time. Rooms and halls have been rebuilt, and decorations and furnishings have been moved around the castle to serve the tastes and needs of the castle's residents as they changed and developed.

From Christian IV's audience chamber to beautifully decorated antechamber

This room was originally one bay larger and served as Christian IV's audience chamber. The marble fireplace, which can now be seen in Christian IV's bedroom, originally stood here. It was also decorated with mythological ceiling paintings, which were later moved to Christian IV's Winter Room, where they hang to this day.

When Rosenborg Castle was rebuilt around the year 1700, the room was made smaller and was furnished as an antechamber for Frederick IV's sister, Princess Sophie Hedevig. In connection with the rebuilding, the ceiling panels with painted emblems were put up – they originally hung in the ceiling of the Knight's Hall. They were probably painted by Anders Nielsen in 1623. During the rebuilding, the walls were covered with woven tapestries, woven in the Dutch town of Oudenaarde.

The beautiful chandelier is made of rock crystal. Pay particular attention to the arms of the chandelier, which are intricately decorated with patterned metal surfaces, with elevations and embellishments in the steel. This is also called chiseled steel. The chandelier was probably made by Anton Matthias Joseph Domanöck in Vienna. It was originally a gift from the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa.
