Christian X and Queen Alexandrine’s Dining Room
In this beautiful Dining Room, you can get a real sense of the palace as it looked when The Royal Family still resided in this part of it.
The family gathers around the dinner table
Christian X – HM Queen Margethe’s paternal grandfather – and his wife, Queen Alexandrine, var det sidste kongepar, der boede her i palæet.
They moved in shortly after their wedding, in 1899, and lived here until their deaths, in 1947 (Christian X) and 1952 (Queen Alexandrine).
The dining table and chairs and the china cabinet in the room stand largely as they did when The King and Queen lived here. This is where the couple had dinner on a daily basis, unless they were hosting gala dinners, which were probably held in the Gala Hall.
We can imagine them dining here with their closest family, including their eldest son, Frederik (IX), and his wife, Crown Princess Ingrid, as well as their three grandchildren, Princesses Margrethe, Benedikte and Anne-Marie.
The wedding gift on the wall
The decorative plates on the walls were a wedding gift to Christian X and Queen Alexandrine in 1898. Among other presents, they received a complete series of bespoke plates from the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory with scenes from Randers and environs, a memento of the time Christian X spent in the area as a young soldier.
Displayed on the window boards are marble busts of The Royal Couple.
The Dining Room has direct access to Christian X's Study.
