Frederik VII’s Room (room 18)

Rosenborg Castle was converted into a museum in the mid-1800s, and this room was furnished with museum objects from Frederik VII's reign just five years after Frederik VII's death in 1863.

Between absolute monarchy and the constitution stood Frederik VII

The history and furnishing of the room

Frederik VII never lived at Rosenborg, and this room was only furnished after Frederik VII's death. Like Christian VIII's Room next door, this room took its form during Frederik IV's remodeling of the first floor here at Rosenborg Castle in the early 1700s. However, parts of the ceiling date back to the time of Christian IV.

The velvet wallpapers were purchased in Venice in 1728 – they were originally bought for Copenhagen Castle (which stood where Christiansborg Palace is today), but were put up here at Rosenborg Castle in the 1750s.

Objects in the room

If you are physically at the museum, you can admire the outstanding objects and read more about them below.

Please note that these descriptions are brief and often without images. They serve as an additional resource for those who wish to gain more knowledge about each object, such as who created them, their origin, and significance.
