The Corridor (room 19)

The Corridor on the first floor connects the south end of the palace with the central room, the Rose. The furniture and pictures displayed in this room date span the reigns of both Christian VII and Frederik VI, ranging from the second half of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century.

Rococo and Neoclassicism

Rococo and neoclassicism

Stylistically, the Corridor includes both Rococo and neoclassicism. The two styles are represented, for example, by the two sets of mirrors dominating this passage.

The ornamentation of the Rococo, which falls in between the baroque and neoclassicism, is characterised by the rocaille: an ornament composed of asymmetrically sinewy shapes.
