The ten smaller silver gueridons

The smaller silver gueridons, commissioned at different times by different members of the royal family, bear the monograms of Sophie Caroline and Charlotte Amalie, among others. They are used as stands for candelabra. Their first use during a royal funeral may have been at Christian IX’s death.

Created in several stages and for different people.

The 10 smaller silver gueridons are used to hold candlesticks. Four of them bear the monogram of Princess Sophie Caroline of East Frisia. She was the sister of Queen Sophie Magdalene. She lived in Denmark during the final years of her life and is buried in Roskilde Cathedral. Another four bear the monogram of Princess Charlotte Amalie, the sister of Christian VI.

We do not know when the smaller silver gueridons were first put into use for royal funerals. They may have first been used at the funeral of Christian IX in 1906.
